1.) Introduction

One of the most played classes in all of World in Warcraft, the Paladin, is a true jack of all trades. If you are like me and just can’t seem to decide whether you want to tank, heal or deal damage then this is the class for you. Back when I first started playing WoW my first character was an Undead Warrior. I got him to level 39 before I quit WoW and deleted him. Ever since then I have always loved swinging big two handed swords and axes.

So when I decided to start back up during the Burning Crusade launch the Paladin was a natural choice for me. Now the best part of the paladin class is that (and now with the inclusion of dual spec) you can switch between your amazing 2 handed dps spec and either a healing spec or tank spec. I personally use my paladin as holy/ret as I have a Warrior at 80 at well who is my sole tank toon.

Anyways enough on being sidetracked about my warrior (as you can tell I love warriors to death.) I will admit though my Paladin was a lot more fun to level, both the ret and prot spec’s farther down make leveling a lot of fun depending on how you like your mobs. Either dead in groups of 4, or dead in groups of 20+.

So the first part when starting a Paladin is your decision on whether you want to make a Horde or Alliance. (It must be noted that in the upcoming expansion Cataclysm Taurens will also be able to become Paladins.)

2.) Starting Races

Horde

Blood Elf Paladin Racial Abilities:

Arcane Torrent – Silences all mobs within 8 yards for 2 seconds. Also gives back 6% of your mana. (This ability is a great help while leveling, especially when trying to group up mobs for AOE [aka Area of Effect, or in simple terms killing a lot of mobs at once.] Being able to silence casters and have them getting within melee range is a huge benefit.)

Arcane Affinity – Gives you a +10 to your enchanting profession if you so choose to use it. (Not much else to say, good if you want to be an Enchanter)

Magic Resistance – Reduces your chance to be hit by magical spells by 2% (Comes in handy during AOE pulls, a resist is always an easy way to keep you killing and less time resting)

Alliance

Draenei Paladin Racial Abilities:

Gift of the Naaru – Heals target over a time span of 15 seconds. The amount that is healed is increased based on the higher stat of either attack power or spell power. (As a leveling Paladin this ability can be somewhat helpful as a last resort type of heal, or right before entering a fight with a hard hitting elite.)

Heroic Presence – Gives yourself and party members a 1% extra chance to hit. (Always a good thing to have more hit, especially for leveling against mobs that are a few levels higher then you. Also nice as most level gear does not include hit.)

Gem Cutting – Increases your Jewel Crafting skill by 5 points. (Either you need this or you don’t)

Shadow Resistance - Reduces your chance to be hit by shadow spells by 2%. (A nice little extra boost when leveling against undead mobs)

Human Paladin Racial Abilities:

Every Man for Himself – Removes all movement impairing effects, as well as any effects that make you lose control of your character. (May be a plus if leveling while on a PVP server or if you plan to PVP at 80, but not too many mobs while questing are going to require you to need this to survive.)

Perception – Increases your stealth detection (This is slightly a bonus while leveling as some of the mobs that are the hardest to find for quests are stealthed.)

Diplomacy – Increase reputation gains by 10%. (Not really useful for leveling)

The Human Spirit – Increase spirit by 3%. (Might help in mana/health regeneration but most likely not noticeable while leveling)

Mace and Sword Specialization – Increases one handed and two handed mace/sword expertise by 3. (Always good to have more “hit” while leveling.)

Dwarf Paladin Racial Abilities:

Stoneform – Activate to remove bleed, poison, and disease effects. Lasts 8 seconds and also increases armor by 10%. (This actually comes in handy quite a bit while leveling as a lot of the more annoying debuffs come from diseases and bleeds. Of course as a Paladin at higher levels you can cleanse yourself.)

Gun Specialization – Increase your chance to critically hit with guns by 1% (Not really needed as a Paladin)

Mace Specialization – Increase your expertise by 3 for maces and two handed maces. (Again hit is always a good thing.)

Frost Resistance – Reduces the chance you will be hit by frost spells by 2%. (These racials are always helpful at keeping you slightly more safe than others while leveling in certain areas.)

Find Treasure – Marks treasure chests, as well as “node” type quest items on the mini map. (A gimmick of a racial, from my opinion fairly useless as I am normally search for herbs or mining nodes while leveling.)

Now hopefully you should have an easier time deciding which race will most closely fit your play style as a defender of the light. Just remember that as much as it’s always nice to have slight benefits while leveling, with how the game has evolved over the years, do not pick your race solely on the leveling abilities. The game truly does begin at level 80, (soon to be 85) so make sure your race will help you to fulfill whichever roll you decide to choose at 80.

3.) Profession Choices

With the introduction of the benefits of trade skills and the increase in how fast toons level now, I feel it has no down side to having a gathering profession while leveling. Just don’t spend all your time crafting things as well if you want to level as fast as possible. Here are some of the options you have to choose from.

Mining – Gather ore from nodes, in turn allowing you to either smelt the ore into bars, or sell/keep the ore. (Mining now also gives a stamina bonus based on what level the gather skill is) 450 skill now grants you +60 to your base stamina.

Herbalism – Gather plants from all around the land, either sell these on the auction house or pick up alchemy as well to create potions. You could also choose to do inscription and create glyphs as well as rare cards later on. (A good way to make some extra cash early on is using herbalism and selling the herbs. Herbalism now also gives you a heal over time type of spell, this is helpful for certain classes but as a Paladin you can already heal yourself fairly easily.)

Skinning – Skin all of the beast mobs you kill collecting furs and skins. (The bonus with skinning at max level is increasing your critical strike rating by 40 points.)

The three professions above are normally the better ones to choose while leveling as they will help you to collect and make some extra gold while leveling. I normally choose 2 gathering professions then when I hit 80 I drop them for two professions I can really benefit from, such as blacksmithing and jewel crafting.

Now we have reached one of the most important factors in leveling your Paladin from 1 to 80 in a decent time. The all to familiar Talent Specialization trees. Depending on your style of play, and what you enjoy the Paladin has a few ways for you to cut through the mobs as your traverse through the World. First up I will cover one of the more popular ways to level.

4.) Retribution Paladin Leveling Guide

As a Retribution Paladin your primary job is to hit things and to hit things hard. Just make sure to stay alive while doing it. Ret Paladins are all about swinging a big slow two handed weapon while being able to heal through any damage that may be taken. At lower levels Retribution leveling can seem somewhat boring and uneventful. You will spend most of your time killing 1-2 mobs at a time and doing it fairly quickly, but just not as quickly as most of us Ret buffs would like. Once you get Divine Storm you will find yourself making the most of your time by AOE leveling on 3-4 mobs at once. Because Divine Storm hits up to 4 targets and heals you as well it makes a good skill to AOE grind with. Here is my Paladin Retribution Spec from level 10 to 80.

Really the last few points depend on you and what you feel you need. If you seem to be getting hit a little too hard because of gear you can always pursue farther down the protection tree to help disperse some damage. On the other hand if you are finding that your survivability is top notch then maybe filling out the rest of the retribution tree is what you should do. I actually find it funny that at this point in time, ret Paladins really do have some talents that just are not “good”. I mean no talent is bad, but no talents from this point on will really make or break you. I do suggest if you plan to solo a lot of group type quests that you travel down the prot or holy tree to increase your survivability.

Final Notes on Retribution Paladin Leveling

You should be using Seal of Command once you get it. Seal of Command is better for damage against targets you kill quickly, seal of corruption is what a raiding ret paladin would use because the damage over time is better for their overall damage. Also do not be afraid to use your seal of wisdom or light to gain yourself back health/mana in the middle of the fight. It is switching up your seals that will make you a great Paladin not just a good one. I have soloed many group quests by using all of the talents I have available to me and I suggest you learn to do the same.

5.) Protection Paladin Leveling Guide

If you are deciding whether or not to level as prot or ret do not worry, as most people who level as prot will tell you that it is always easier to level as retribution until 30 when you get reckoning. Of course I wanted to design a guide for people like me who want to pick a spec and stick with it even if it may be a tad slower at first. So here is my take on the 10 to 80 protection leveling spec and talent build, hopefully this will help all you who want to be AOE holy knights to down packs of mobs by the thousands. : )

Final Notes on Protection Paladin Leveling

If you have decided to level as a protection paladin I have great respect for you. While not being as fast as retribution in most cases, I personally found it more fun to level. The thing about leveling as an AOE protection paladin is that certain parts of World of Warcraft will give you a huge advantage. Not only can you find an instance group at any level rather quickly but certain areas of the WoW world you will be able to grab 20 mobs at once and just watch as they all fall to your feet. This is of course very obvious in places like Western and Eastern Plaguelands where the fact that most mobs are undead really helps the protection AOE paladin to excel.

A good piece of advice that no one ever told me is to put a shield spike on your shield. While this may seem like common sense to most, for people like myself we don’t really think it could benefit us all that much but it does. Any extra damage you can be causing to the vast amount of mobs around you is going to make your leveling experience a lot easier.

6.) Holy Paladin Leveling Guide

So you have decided to venture into the realm of extreme difficulty. If you are thinking about leveling as a holy spec I have great respect for you. With the introduction of 3.3 and the new looking for group system it now makes a lot more sense to level as a holy paladin. You will now be able to randomly queue up for the instances of your level. Allowing you to find groups quicker then most because you will be able to heal. Before patch 3.3 a good holy spec would be one that would do as much damage as possible. Of course now you may want to talent yourself out more in a dungeon friendly fashion. Below you will find the holy spec that I think will give you the most versatility to heal in dungeons as well as quest during your down time.

Final Notes on Holy Paladin Leveling

Hopefully by the time you hit 80 you will have had enough experience as a healbot that heroics and raids will go smoothly for you. Unlike my other guides for the paladin leveling specs I feel it would be an injustice to not help out my fellow holy paladins in arms. I use an add-on called Healbot. I know a lot of other healers use the same sort of set up with clique and grid. Either way I recommend using some form of these 1 click type healing add-ons as they will make healing lot less of a headache for you and your groups will love your amazingly awesome heals. Also its key to note that as with most things do not get discouraged if you let a dps or tank die. Even if you wipe it does not matter, just learn from the mistake and move on. This game needs all the healers it can get so keep with it.

Another thing I thought I should mention that may make leveling as holy a little bit faster for you. If you are out in the world questing do not be afraid to use a big 2 handed mace/axe/sword/pole arm. Just cause you are holy does not mean you need to quest with a sword and shield. Just by using a 2 hander you may find yourself leveling quite a bit faster. Just remember to equip your sword and shield when you get into the instance you are queued for.

Paladin Leveling Guides

There is no other answer for the question when looking for Paladin Leveling Guides. The Ultimate WoW guide is just that, the best wow leveling guide you can find on the market today. I have used leveling guides since the beginning of The Burning Crusade. I used Joana’s Leveling guide when I leveled my first blood elf mage a long time ago. I used Brian Kopp’s guide when I leveled my first dwarf warrior to level 60.

Over time most of these leveling guides have evolved into amazing tools. Back then you had to alt tab and read directions from a web page. Now most guides, at least most good ones use an ingame addon that makes leveling a new toon effortless. So which would I recommend as the best paladin leveling guide? I think you know the answer to that, and it is the ultimate wow guide. This guide has taken the ingame leveling process to the next level.

The in game talent add on is also a nice touch as it can give people who have never played certain classes an idea and outlook on just what might work best while questing. Of course if you buy the ultimate package like I have done you will receive a lot more then what you are paying for. I now have leveling guides for both horde and alliance, as well as profession and gold farming guides. I do not PVP very often but if I did I would know a lot of tricks because of the PVP strategy guide that comes in the ultimate package as well.

Bottom line:

    Hit 80 in under 7 days /played
Level your 2 professions to 450 for cheap
Demolish the auction house and make it rich
Freshly ding 80 and outsmart better geared opponents in PVP
Farm dailies to your heart’s content

This is why you need the ultimate guide in your arsenal, no other guide comes close. This really is the one stop tool for any Pro WoW Player.
